Leonardo's Imagination:
Volunteer Opportunities

When: October 5, 2002 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Where: Allentown, PA - 5th Street between Linden and Hamilton St.
Hamilton Street between 5th and 7th

You too can be part of the fun of "Leonardo's Imagination" and also contribute to the success of this community event by volunteering in one of the following areas:

Hospitality/Information: Volunteering in this area will mean knowing where various activities are taking place, what times events are scheduled, where the bathrooms are - critical information that can make or break ones' day. It is also important that these volunteers enjoy talking to people. If you're a lifelong introvert, you might think about volunteering in another area. If you like talking to people, this could be you!

Demonstration Assistant: This position involves being an extra pair of hands for some of the various organizations that are providing hands-on activities and demonstrations geared primarily for children. If the Discovery Center needs someone to help fold paper helicopters, or the chalk artist needs to organize her colors, this could be you!

Runner: This position is perfect for someone who likes to solve problems and is resourceful. It will involve roaming from booth to booth and checking to make sure everything is O.K. But if someone needs an extension cord, or a roll of tape, you will have to know how to find it. (Don't worry - we will supply a box of supplies to help you, but we might not think of everything!) So, if you're an ingenious person who likes to keep things running smoothly, this could be you!

Banner Hangers: This activity will take place the morning of the event before it actually starts. You will need to be there bright and early and have your job completed before 11 a.m. So if you like to sleep in on Saturday mornings, don't volunteer here. If you like decorating and making sure pictures hang straight on the wall, this could be you!

Debris Patrol: This task would be great for a scout troop or organization who needs to earn some community service points. Obviously, part of the success of a community event such as this one depends upon people enjoying their environment, and that means keeping it clean. Now, most people are pretty good about picking up after themselves, but sometimes things just happen and "stuff" ends up on the ground. We need people who are willing to patrol the streets and make sure "stuff" is in the garbage where it belongs. If you like things to be neat and clean, this could be you!

Weight Lifting: Not exactly, but we do need people who will come early or stay late and help set up tables and chairs for the various stations. If you want to eliminate a trip to the gym later and want to be a good citizen at the same time, this could be you!

Please notify us of your wish to volunteer and in what area. We will attempt to place people on a first come/first serve basis in their area of choice. The key tasks for our volunteers are to be polite, helpful, neatly dressed and willing to go with the flow that day. Flexibility, cheerfulness and a sense of humor are mandatory for participation.
